Our Story

The traditional Nutcracker ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s fairy tale called, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, written in 1816.  The classical ballet production in two acts that was performed for the first time at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, on December 17, 1892.  The music for the ballet was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the original choreography is by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with the ballet story adaptation developed by Marius Petipa. The most famous version of the Nutcracker ballets that we see today is based on choreography by George Balanchine and Lev Ivanov.  In the traditional version of the ballet story, a young girl named Clara and her mischievous little brother, Fritz enjoy the family’s Christmas party hosted by their parents Herr and Frau Stahlbaum.  The children’s Godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer is mysterious and magical. He brings life-sized dolls to perform for the children and give the Fritz and Clara special gifts.

Later that night, Clara has dreams of being whisked off by the Spirit of Christmas and led by her, now come-to-life Nutcracker Prince into the Land of the Sweets.  There she is entertained by Enchanted Dolls and Magical Sweets that represent nations from across Europe and Asia. The entire story ballet is built on the classical ballet genre. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Our story also begins in the swing of a Holiday celebration. Claire and her parents are enjoying this time with her little sister, Charlotte and love having their cousins and friends over for great food, jazz dancing, and gift-giving!  With the magic of Uncle Al and the Spirit of Christmas, the Nutcracker Prince brings Claire on an enchanted journey and she is welcomed by songs of celebration and dancing magical dolls, special treats and the Brown Sugar Spun Fairy and her Askari prince.

Along with ballet, our Nutcracker highlights the dance styles of modern and jazz, acrobatics and tap, african and even hip-hop among others.  We take you on a journey across the continents of North America and Africa, through Central and South America and the Caribbean

We invite you to join us on this unprecedented production!
